OUR PROVINCE
Hela Province in Papua New Guinea spans 10,498 square kilometers and had a population of 249,449 as of the 2011 Census. It became an independent province in May 2012 after previously being a district within the Southern Highlands Province. With administrative boundaries shared with East and West Sepik, Western, Enga, and Southern Highlands provinces, Hela is landlocked but accessible by road and air transportation. The province boasts a well-established road network, including the Highlands Highway, which facilitates connectivity with other Highlands provinces. It is also home to significant oil and gas fields, making valuable contributions to Papua New Guinea’s energy sector.

Hela Province follows Planning and Service Delivery Frameworks, developing Provincial and District Development Plans aligned with the MTDP IV. These plans address minimum service needs and strategic economic investment opportunities, ensuring coordinated and sustainable development.
